Caleb Job – John Gibson Scholarship winner
Caleb Job, studying at Kew Gardens, is awarded the John Gibson Environmental Scholarship
Caleb has been studying horticulture for around 5 years, after discovering an interest in plants while travelling and working in Nepal. Following completion of his level two in horticulture he became a Diploma student at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and will graduate in September.
During his time at Kew Gardens Caleb has worked with a great variety of plant collections, such as moist tropical flora from South America, the temperate collections in the Arboretum and the South African displays in the Temperate Glasshouse. The diversity of the collections that he has helped to curate has allowed him to begin developing an idea of the areas of horticulture he is particularly passionate about. Caleb is just about to embark on travel to Colombia explore his interests in ecological restoration, agroforestry, displays in botanical gardens and the conservation of threatened endemic flora. The Scholarship award from the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation will help to fund this amazing trip.
On hearing of his success at being awarded the scholarship Caleb said, “I feel very lucky to have received a funding from Colegrave Seabrook Foundation, the contribution made has helped me fund what is an incredible opportunity for myself to explore my horticultural interests in Colombia. Thank you, Colegrave Seabrook Foundation.”
The John Gibson scholarship is awarded to a student who can demonstrate a keen interest in environmental and sustainability. Jeff Colegrave, chair of trustees said, “The trustees were very impressed with Caleb’s interest in habitat restoration and how the stories of endangered species are displayed in curated collections. His trip to South America will enable him to broaden his knowledge of species conservation in a native setting and be very valuable for his future work.”
